Futuristic Crisis: The Game was Rigged from the Start: The 2050 Gambling Epidemic

The year is 2050. People diagnosed with Severe Gambling Disorder (SGD) within the U.S spiked to 70% of the population. The cause? Gamble-GPT’s brand new “House” AI system. Delegates will be forced to compromise on two polarizing spectrum: Pro-Gambling Tech CEO’s and Anti-Gambling Abolitionists with a few Wild Cards thrown in there to up the ante.

Position Papers Due By 10/02 @ 11:59 pm

Chair

My name is Bryan Lee and I am your Futuristic Crisis co-chair for RidgeMUNC V. I am a senior at Marriotts Ridge, and I have been a member of MUN since freshman year. My favorite MUN memory is hanging out with my friends post-committee at NAIMUNC. As an avid sports fan, I have had a growing concern with the rise of sports gambling and predictive markets. I believe they tarnish the integrity of the sports that many around the world love to watch. This crisis introduces an interesting challenge for delegates to tackle. I cannot wait to see how you all approach this committee and look forward to seeing you in committee!

Co-Chair

My name is Karthik Mandavilli, and I'm excited to serve as your Futuristic Crisis co-chair for RidgeMUNC V. I'm a sophomore at Marriotts Ridge and have been part of MUN since last year. One of my favorite memories is from RidgeMUNC itself, just hanging out with my friends after the committee is always a blast. I love watching sports, and I've grown concerned as sports betting and prediction markets have exploded in popularity, shadowing the games with incentives that have nothing to do with the sport itself. This committee will ask you to debate with exactly that tension, and I can't wait to see the creativity you all bring. Looking forward to meeting everyone!
