Kashmir Border Conflict
Welcome to the Special Political and Decolonization committee! For this conference, SPECPOL will be focused on the issue of the Kashmir Border Conflict. Throughout the past 80 years, the issue of the Kashmir Border Conflict has grown more violent and hostile. The conflict emerged as a result of the Indian Independence Act, when the state of Pakistan was established. Following the creation of Pakistan as a state, both India and Pakistan claimed the region of Kashmir in its entirety, which ultimately started this decades-long conflict. Delegates will be tasked with determining a resolution to the border conflict that answers the question of Kashmir’s status, and terms for a potential ceasefire. We look forward to watching you all debate!

My name is Leah Klaus, and I am your chair for the Special Political and Decolonization Committee on the Kashmir Border Conflict. I am currently a senior at Marriotts Ridge High School and this is my fourth year participating in Model UN. The welcoming environment I have found being a part of Model UN has allowed me to develop an unexpected passion for global diplomacy which I hope you all will discover during RidgeMUNC! I'm looking forward to seeing you all engage in a thrilling debate regarding this complicated global topic, and I am honored to serve as your chair!

Hello delegates! My name is Allison Bonier, and I will be your co-chair! I’m a senior here at Marriotts Ridge, and have been a part of Model UN since my freshman year. I am so glad I joined MUN as it has been one of the best parts of my high school experience. I’ve met amazing people, improved my public speaking skills! Studying history has always been interesting to me, so I am very excited to be chairing this committee since the issue of Kashmir has been incredibly relevant in the past as well as the present. I hope you all have a great RidgeMUNC experience, and I can’t wait to watch you all engage in debate!
