The Scramble for Africa
At the prime of European expansion, tension arose as pressure grew to take control over African countries for their valuable raw materials, laborers, and the power that came with imperialism. To fuel industrialization, sort out imperial rivalry, and discuss who has rights to the valuable Congo River basin German Chancellor Otto von Bismarck calls upon 14 European powerhouses to meet and divide the continent in Berlin on November 15th, 1884. As the continent is being split, tensions from within the conference are not the only issues at hand, anti-colonialist movements from within Africa are growing more prominent. As well as support from Asian empires concerned with the rate of European expansion across the globe. In this committee, delegates are split into two parties, those pro-colonialism and those against, facing distinct issues within the parties as well as the larger conflict between the two. In committee, delegates must develop a resolution to address the internal affairs within the parties as well as the divide over colonialism.

Hello! My name is Reem Abdelghani and I am your chair for this committee! I am a senior at Marriotts Ridge and I've been doing MUN since my Freshman year of high school. I've grown so much as a member of this community, I've attended countless local and international conferences— learning so much through the years. MUN has helped me in public speaking, diplomatic debate, and my ability to engage with others. I've made so many valuable memories in committee, and I hope to make this one as memorable for you! Hello! My name is Deshna Dasari and I am going to be the co-chair for this committee. I’m a senior at Marriotts Ridge and I’ve been doing MUN since my sophomore year of high school. MUN has led me to create so many wonderful memories, especially being able to go to NAIMUN and meeting people from around the world. MUN has given me the opportunity to gain many new skills through all the meetings and conferences.
